STI Testing
1 in 5 people in the U.S. have an STI. Many may not know it.
Know the Facts:
- Many common STIs do not cause any symptoms
- Many people have sexually transmitted infections and never know it
- Many people get or spread infections without ever having symptoms
If you are sexually active, regular testing for HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) is a part of a safer sex practice. Confidential tests for HIV and other STIs are offered at Watkins.

Confidentiality
Watkins Health Services places a high value on confidentiality. Any testing done through WHS is confidential, meaning that your test results are released only to you and cannot be released to an outside party (including parents, partners) without your written consent.
Costs & Billing for STI Testing
The cost for each HIV and STI test varies. Contact the Business Office by phone at 785-864-9520 for current pricing.
Students have the option to pay at the time of service, be billed, or have WHS submit the charges to your insurance company. Provide your current insurance information to the Business Office so the bill can go directly to the insurance company. Any portion not covered by your insurance company is your responsibility.
Be aware that private insurance companies sometimes notify the subscriber (often parents) as to what tests are done for covered individuals. Therefore, the subscriber may get a notice from the private insurance company that "student X had a Chlamydia test done on date X" though results are generally not reported. If you are concerned, it is a good idea to contact your insurance company before you get tested and inquire about their billing policies.
To avoid using your private insurance, you may opt for WHS to bill you directly at your university address or pay at the time of service.
